December 7
We spent two weeks in Pahrump and in Death Valley at the 49ers encampment. Our stay in Pahrump found us eating out in the casinos, as you could not cook at home for the price it cost to eat in the casinos. For example, Sunday brunch was six dollars and 28 cents for the two of us.
While in Death Valley, we took several side trips to explore the beautiful rock formations that make up in this National Monument. We also toured Scotty’s Castle, which was built in the 1920s as a vacation home for his wealthy friends. The castle was actually built by a friend of Scotty’s who Scotty had convinced to invest in a gold mining operation that was bogus. Mr. Johnson found the climate in Death Valley to his liking as it helped relieve some of his health problems so he financed the building of the castle so he would have a nice place to bring his family for vacation.
We moved down to 1000 trails Park in Menefee, California to store are motorhome foreign aid a trip on a cruise now Mexican Coast. Unfortunately we had a cancel the cruise as Carols mother took turns the worse and we had to fly back to Iowa. She passed away on November 18th and was put to rest on November 21st. I flew back on the 28th in Carol stayed in other week and flew back December 5th. We are now in 1000 trails Park in Palm Springs California and will remain in the Palm Springs area for six more weeks. We will then spend six weeks along the Colorado River before going to the Mesa Arizona area for a month.
When we leave Arizona, we plan to spend some time in Big Bend National Park in Texas on our way to visit our son in Cedar Park.
